Code of Conduct

CODE OF CONDUCT

Players, Parents, Coaches, and League Participants:

The commitment made by parents, players and coaches to participate in the long and demanding hockey season is significant. To make the season fun, safe and positive, all players (youth and adult), parents or guardians, coaches and other rink participants must agree to the following Rules of Conduct as well as to any rules of conduct imposed by the league, coaches, and rink officials. The Hawaii In-line Hockey Incorporation (HIHI) Board recognizes the authority of coaches and rink officials to discipline player(s) whose behavior is deemed detrimental to him/ herself, fellow teammates, opponents, coaches, or the reputation and integrity of the HIHI. The HIHI Board encourages coaches to institute rules for their respective team to allow our program to run for the betterment of all players. While we hope it will not be necessary, a disciplinary committee of the Board will hear all complaints involving players who have been suspended two or more games in a season and/or for potential expulsions from the program.

1.  Dangerous Conduct

Players must exhibit concern for the safety of their teammates, coaches and their opponents at all times. Any behavior that could result in injury to any player, coach or bystander, will be considered dangerous. During a game or practice, rink officials and/or coaches will make the determination of what may be considered dangerous conduct. Youth coaches have the authority to set individual rules of conduct for their team and may impose consequences immediately for actions in violation of such rules. Such consequences may include, but are not limited to, lost practice/game time, mandatory parental attendance, suspension or expulsion from the program. Coaches are encouraged to report all discipline issues to the parent/guardian of the player whenever possible. Adult players must abide by the same rules during games and/or pickup hockey. Determination and consequences for adult players will be dealt with by league officials and the HIHI Board.

2.  Illegal Conduct

Illegal activities while participating, or representing HIHI, at practices, games and tournaments will not be tolerated. Illegal conduct will be reported immediately to the police. Such behavior includes, but is not limited to, theft, destruction of property, the use of illegal drugs, abuse of prescription drugs, or the illegal use of alcohol. Alcohol use is not permitted at the rink, and may not be brought on the premises.

3.  Disruptive Conduct

Behavior that disrupts games, practice, learning sessions, or coaches discussions will not be tolerated. Such behaviors may include, but are not limited to, horseplay, rudeness, talking back, fighting, and disrespect to coaches, players, rink officials, parents, and/or teammates. Consequences may include, but are not limited to: Board notification, parental involvement, lost practice or game time, and/or game suspensions. Chronic misbehavior or disruptive conduct by youth or adult players shall result in suspension or in extreme situations, expulsion from the program.

4. Unbecoming Conduct

Behavior that includes, but is not limited to, poor sportsmanship, harassment or taunting, will not be tolerated. Chronic misbehavior shall result in suspension, or in extreme situations, expulsion from the program.

5.  Team Commitment

Behavior that includes, but is not limited to, repeated late attendance or repeated failure to attend practices/games will not be tolerated. Coaches, adult team captains, and league officials may remove you from a team due to lack of participation.

By registering to participate with HIHI, the above codes of conduct will be followed and agreed upon between HIHI, Player and Parent (if youth).
